The campground at Katherine Landing on the southern tip of the recreation area has 173 sites for tents and RVs. It serves as an ideal launch point for water based activities or RV driving tours of the local area.
There are so many activities to occupy your time that you may find it difficult deciding where to start. Whether you spend your time on the lake or driving in the comfort of your RV rental you will be inspired by the local natural beauty.
Boating & Fishing
Six marinas operate along Lake Mead and three on Lake Mohave all of which offer a full range of boating and fishing services and supplies all year-round. At the marinas you will find all the services you could want, this includes a wide range of rentals from fishing boats, to ski boats and waterskiing equipment, to houseboats.
Fishermen are drawn to Lake Mead as it boasts some of the best fishing spots in the country. And, unlike other lakes, it is open season on all species of fish year-round. What better reason do you need to grab an RV rental and pack your fishing gear?
Lake Mead is renowned for its striped bass. Some have recorded catches weighing 50 pounds and more. If rainbow trout is more your style then head over to Lake Mohave. Other popular catches in the area include largemouth bass, channel catfish, and black crappie. There are differences between the lakes in the abundance of different species.
RV rental holiday makers will be able to store any fish they catch in the freezer compartment of their recreational vehicle. Not only that, the cooking facilities of our RV rentals will help you transform that fish in a delicious meal at the end of the day. What better way to relax after a hard day of fishing?
Swimming
The crystal clear water contained in this desert lake is very popular with swimmers. The best seasons are spring, summer and fall when temperatures average 78 degrees Fahrenheit.
The clear clean waters are also popular for snorkeling and diving. While swimming is permitted on the lake some beach areas are specially designated as swimming beaches. They have been marked with buoys to prevent boats from entering. Bathers are asked to take care as there are no lifeguards on duty.
Scenic Drives
With several different routes on offer, Lake Mead’s Scenic Drives provide dramatic desert scenery. Towering mountains, open desert littered with cactuses and creosote bush provide a constant scenic backdrop to an RV rental holiday.
The most popular scenic drives wind along the edge of Lake Mead. These roads provide breathtaking 360 degree views of the lake set against the backdrop of the colorful desert mountains. The area contains a stunning variety of brilliant red boulders and rock formations.
There are many scenic drives to choose from. Most roads are accessible by our RV rental vehicles. For example, the road to Pearce Ferry runs through amazingly rare Joshua-tree forests. However we advise you to stay away from unpaved backcountry roads and drive only on paved roads. The conditions of these roads vary widely and it is considered safest to stick to the sealed roads.
