We know from experience that RV rental holiday makers are looking for an exceptional and inspiring travel experience. What better place to be inspired than the Grand Canyon. With miles and miles of RV friendly countryside this corner of the country is ideally suited to a camper rental holiday.

More than a mile deep in places the Grand Canyon is awe inspiring to young and old. It has many features which draw tourists from far and wide, over four million people visit this corner of Arizona every year. The experience can be wasted if you don’t plan ahead. This article explains some of the attractions of the Grand Canyon. Hopefully it will inspire you to grab an RV rental and take your next holiday here.

During peak season, May through September, hotel rooms and camp sites routinely sell out months in advance, as do the many activities including mule rides, and certain rafting trips can be a year-long wait or more. Make reservations as far in advance as you can to avoid disappointment.

RV FRIENDLY CAMPSITES

There are two developed campsites on the South Rim which allow for overnight RV stays. There is a limit of 7 days imposed upon campers and both campsites have a strict limit of 30 foot maximum on all campervans and RVs. Only two of our six rental vehicles fall into this restricted category. The other four vehicles which are all under 30foot are ideally suited for visiting the Grand Canyon campsites.

The Mather Campground requires bookings in advance during peak season. The other site, Desert View Campground operates on a first come first served basis all year round. The campground is usually full by early afternoon during the busy summer months. These are dry sites, meaning no utility, water, or sewer hookups. Showers are only available at the Mather Campground.

As you can see, many of the modern conveniences we provide in our RV rentals as standard are not provided at the campgrounds. You will be the envy of every other camper.

Unfortunately there is only a small range of dining options in the Grand Canyon area. But from the comfort of your very own RV rental this will not present a problem. A decently sized fridge/freezer, air conditioned throughout with convenient cooking equipment, it will seem like you have all the comforts of home.

THINGS TO DO

The grand canyon is a remarkably stunning place to visit. When you leave the comfort of your RV rental and venture out from the campsite you can take a walk along any one of the rim trails and hiking tracks. Head west to find Hermit’s Rest, a 1914 stone building named after a 19th-century French-Canadian prospector who had a roughly built homestead in the area. These days, it’s a gift shop and snack bar.

The famous mule rides are an experience for the intrepid traveler. The animals walk narrow ledges carved into the canyon wall and provide a look back into time when life was less complicated but a lot more scary. After completing the mule ride it’s very likely you will not want to ever see another mule. We recommend retreating to your RV rental vehicle for some well earned rest and relaxation.

Active types can choose from many hiking trails. Less active types choose to explore the area’s cultural history. One such cultural drawcard is the amazing Wupatki Pueblo. This is accessible by a self guided trail that starts at the visitor centre and takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. About 800 years ago Wupatki was the largest pueblo around. It was a thriving home base for a variety of local peoples. The remains of 100 rooms can still be found today, including communal areas where daily life would have taken place.
