Angels Camp is a quaint Gold Rush town located in the Sierra Foothills. Travelling along Highway 49 in one of our RV rentals it can be found just north of New Melones Lake. Like other Gold Rush towns it has had its ups and downs but when a Gold bearing quartz vein was found the town really took off. Author Mark Twain based his short story "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" on a story he claimed to have heard at the historic Angels Hotel. Residents of the town continue to celebrate this event with the annual Mark Twain Frog Jumping Jubilee each May at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds just east of the city.
